edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros

Friday May 27th, 2016

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros performed last night at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The weather was perfect, as was the sound. In all honestly I had very little expectations going into this show, as I was not familiar with this band outside of whatever that one commercial was that one song was in it, that is all feel goody. However, I do love my wife and a date night when we can get one, so I was in.

To my surprise the stage was filled with a plethora of talented musicians, and although there were more ‘man-buns’ than I’d ever like to see again, they played well, tight, and were clearly having a great time, which in my book means the world to a performance. There was a piano, drums, multiple percussionists, horns a plenty, tuba, trumpet, a trombone resting on stand-by just in case. As well as, multiple guitars of both the electric and acoustic varieties, and both stand up and electric bass. I expected girl centric indie rock that I wouldn’t get and instead I got a performance more reminiscent of a traditional, hippie-esc jam band.

This was also the first show I had been to at the North Carolina Art Museum and what a treat this venue was. We were in quick, despite a sold out line. Able to bring our own chairs, drinks and food. It was like a picnic / concert. Also for supplies on demand, it was refreshing to see items like Hot Dogs for only $3, and bottle water for only $2. We even purchased a bottle of wine for $25.

4/5 stars = Great

All in all it was an evening of shattered expectations in perfect weather with music played in perfect time.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”722″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”724″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”733″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”723″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”727″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”738″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Setlist:
